BOEING | A TRADER’S VIEW

In this Briefing on BA,we will track my last couple reviews in the Cara Community Week In Review (WIR), as well as earlier comments in my blog, and point out we have been right on the mark. In the blog archives, you will discover several years ago I said it was wrong for Harry Stonecipher, the Boeing CEO at the time, to be hyping a plane (the 787 Dreamliner) that was just a concept, still in the design stage. At the time the company was caught up in a sales war with Airbus Industries, which had been eating Boeing’s lunch; Stonecipher decided it would be good to sell vapor, unsure if the new composite plane materials would reduce weight (and hence fuel savings and range extension), a key selling point to the airlines. That's the only reason this plane hasn't flown so far; it's not a safety factor, but a weight and hence an operating cost factor.
