Re: Some pics from Time Square protests

Looks like NYC people get it and will continue this spring. In Chicago the Occupy NATO protest is strong against too much "Defense" spending. They are up against an Iron Wall
but they leave hope in my heart.

From Seeking Alpha "MARKET CURRENTS" today:

12:00 PM The "disconnect" between the price of gold and the valuations of the companies digging it out of the ground hits John Paulson, whose Advantage Plus fund lost 6.7% during April thanks to big bets on gold miners. Gold-mining stocks have gotten hammered of late - far worse than what the price of bullion would suggest. Why a reversion to the mean may be in the offing. [Commodities] 27 Comments

I feel Paulson's pain as I am down big percentage-wise on RBY and MUX. Made some gain by trading MUX three times since mid-March.

Rubicon kicked their CEO upstairs to chairman and snagged the chief mining guy from GG as their new CEO. I see this as a very positive step but have not seen anyone comment here. RBY is newbie Cara 100 even though Bill was not enthusiastic as to the last CEO.

Re: SLW

That seems a danger for SLW and MUX ( holder) but I have no knowledge. But here is an interesting take on SLW from the comments of a SA article:

In Part II of your analysis you need to be asking just one simple question : "What happens when they run out of chumps willing to be taken to the cleaners by giving their silver away to the corporate equivalent of the PayDay Loan Shops ?" Because that's ALL Silver Wheaton is .... a PayDay Loan Shop for desperate silver producers.. 3 May, 03:51

Thanks for the comment. I agree future silver acquisition costs will increase significantly, which is why In Part II I am including multiple valuations, that will include a DCF assuming no future production is acquired, and the current contracts are allowed to run off, as well as a 5 yr forecast with a stable growth calculation. This will allow readers to get a real perspective on what the company's current contracts are worth, and what future deals could bring to the table.

Thank you for that historical reminder.

And how about US Steel buying Marathon Oil in the last millennium? X knew nothing of the energy industry except they needed it. Divested in 2001.

Re: MUX- Dog de jour!

Blues it is but I got back in at $3.73 today, about the same as Papa Dynamite's stink bids. Have been out since March when I traded it at a profit two times. Would like to hold for the long term, as Bill suggests, but price keeps going down from a big high and it is volatile to the upside also. So I remain skeptical. This is not your ordinary stock!

Re: Here was yesterday's Smith

"The imagination it takes to conceive of a random citizen making split second life and death decisions in a crowd/clouded haze should be stamped out. Hard."

I agree. The thought of bullets being fired in a public space by a vigilante is scary. Ricochet not to mention outright misses.

RBY/MUX/PHYS

Have been in and out in last year or so but holding now. Looking for the longer term, with hope. Believing PHYS is as close as I can get to physical as an American without paying a 20% premium.

Re: Jeff's Comments

MtnGntx,

Please try to control yourself in your hatred of our current President. Especially your last paragraph. What you say may be indicative of the several last Presidents. What's the difference? I do not request a reply.

Re: JP Morgan's dirty laundry

Bill & DaveFair,

I am thankful for Mr.Smith's rant, just as I am for most of Kaimu's. Enough said, for now. These are developing stories. I hope they will not be forgotten or dismissed from MSM.

Re: Question I can't answer..

Dr. Strangelove,

"Use it or loose (sp) it."

You are indeed Strange on this one due to the outdated but still official policy of so called "nuclear deterrence". We are not in the age of the Spanish Armada. Any use of even smaller Nukes would be a crime and a disaster.

Re: Ritholtz on the myth of "segregated accounts"

The article is excellent and well written.

Questions remain in my mind about FDIC coverage. Does it apply to Money Market $ in a bank? The treasurer of my condo association was told "yes" by the bank after I brought up the question of bad risk/reward for such presently. I am not so sure that MM's are protected from "breaking the buck".

Re: Bad broker last post

Cali Kid,

I have been with Scottrade since mid '80's. Never had a problem. Then again, I never tried to trade on TSX and do not intend to do so. Did not even know I could if I wanted.

Re: RBY and MUX

Papa D,

I got back into RBY recently, at $3.79, soon after Bill put it into Cara 100. Thought I had a good price since the finance deal was at $4.10. Not so sure now but I will be in it for the long term this time, hopefully.

Re: Privacy is the greater issue?

Amen, Athan. Although I have doubts about the "open carry" part. Police in USA are against it. It's a push of the NRA, the biggest lobby group and supported mostly by arms manufactures'.

"Soak the Rich"

Ilya,

#104089 last night used that phrase, in a derogatory manner. Reminds me of a video of long ago which has stuck in my head ever since. The late Peter Grace (May 25, 1913 - April 19, 1995 ), as a featured speaker where he sarcastically used same before an an audience of his peers, very rich cohorts. The only other thing I remember is the then CEO of Marriott hotels nodding his head in agreement in the audience, and smiling.

The Grace family of long time inheritance of many millions is still smiling. So are many others.

Doubt that the ancient video is on You Tube but I have not checked.

Good find Luggie, on the Williston paper. I am out of all oil right now but hope to get back in (no pun intended but Bakken and Eagle Ford are my preferred locations).

The 1st pic with the head man on the catwalk overseeing all reminds me of guards in a prison, although no armed watchmen are visible.
