Re: Elliot Wave Assessment On Gold

Hello Fransix!!

I'm very interested in learning about Elliot Wave Assessments. I can do the standard wiki search and buy books from Amazon. Do you have any recommendations as to the best book or resource for learning the basics? If it matters, my background includes a strong base in mathematics.

Thanks in advance.

Shannon

Illini,

I can't seem to get your message. Can you resend to: rugger09 at hotmail.com?

Many Thanks

Re: User Locations Map

There are a few of us here in Canada's far north (generating REAL wealth). It isn't quite the end of the world, but you can see it from here. If you are ever miffed at your weather and want to feel better, you can most likely msg me and I can make you feel much better about your temperature situation. HA! Only joking, it is quite rugged and beautiful up here but in an 'acquired taste' sort of way. Sort of like grappa.

Re: Maybe it's the weather

Speaking of miners: Is anyone planning on attending the presentation sessions for Goldcorp and Agnico?

Speaking of weather: -19 with the wind and light flurries this morning.

G.TO - What Gives?!

I thought the stock price of Goldcorp was much more sensitive to the short term movement of bullion. Today it has not budged from 42 (on TSX). I wonder if investors see the stock as over-extended already? Good thing I'm back in WGI.

In for some WGI.to

I already have a good position with G.to and have added some WGI.to in hopes POG really uncoils to the upside. Interesting times.

Life can always be worse. I woke up this morning to -15 degrees celcius and snowing. I was questioning what hemisphere I was in...???!!!

Vadym, how is the House Prices?

Hey Vadym,

I'm starting to look around for property to purchase and rent out. My intent is to have it located in a place I like to visit. Victoria (and area) are one of my favorites. Since Tofino is way too expensive, have the housing prices retreated in your area and if so, have they started to bottom?

Thanks in advance

Shannon

First Options Contract

Well, I've finally grown up and started with option strategies. I sold my first call option on at&t, July 29 strike. Wish me luck!

Re: Congrats to all TCK holders

Bill, I respect and admire you and your team's diligent work (as evidenced by your above average successes). I have to sheepishly admit that I thought you were way off base with your insistence that TCK was not broken. I had thought that the CEO played texas hold'em with the company, went all in and got busted. I did not even begin a detailed look into their financial situation, I just THOUGHT that they were done.

It all goes to show that the diligent, thoughtful and purposeful work is what really counts, not bravado filled 'gut feels' cuz I'm in the industry and THINK I KNOW better... I passed up a golden opportunity that you presented. I'll live and learn.

40,000 Foot Level

Does anyone know the best country for a Canadian citizen to relocate to with the intent of being a tax-smart place to live (such as Bill's paradise - the Bahamas). A suggestion of where to begin to look woudl suffice thus far, but I do not have friends that are tax specialists...

I would not want to renounce my Canadian citizenship, as well. My time-frame for such a move would be in ten years or so, but I would like to begin to plan the best path forwards soon. I call this one of my 40,000 foot level goals and want to make sure all the little things I do today moves in that direction.

Thanks in advance

Re: SLW

Yes NYU, that is what I was thinking as well. Are you thinking that the March 3rd double dip is resistance? The price experienced the same resistance around Jan 27 & 28 and Feb 9th.

This is the first time I'm looking at SLW with the intent to play so looking for some guiding experience.

SLW

Wow, SLW took a big dive today, down 8.5%... Goldcorp hit 36 bucks (CAD) so I got stopped out with a 6.5% gain.

Re: THE C WORD

I think the gold in Fort Knox is not really in Fort Knox but in Barrick's operating mines. The Carlin trend is the new Fort Knox, ounces are very secure there; you have to mine them first before theft can occur.

Re: New Gold and WGI

Kaimu, I actually enjoy taking the other side of the arguement with you, simply because I learn so much from you. You really do add serious value to this discourse. Thanks.

Your passion and absolute confidence in your concepts are very motivating for the rest of us.

I do not know Oliphant or Gallagher but I do know some of the 'mine management' from most of the major miners including Barrick. One of which is the most resected mining professional I have ever dealt with. From that management elevation, I would have to say you are dead wrong. These are fine men with principles and values that are equal to most on this blog. HOWEVER I have no idea what goes on in the 'inner circle', at that lofty height.

Thanks for leading me by the nose to that glowing fact. Ignorance is only ignorance if you ignore what you choose to ignore.

It is minus 43 degrees celcius (with wind) outside my office window right now. What a beautiful day.

Re: New Gold and WGI

Kaimu,

Your distain for the Barrick executive is well known on this blog and for anyone that does not know the background - research the lawsuit of Blanchard vs. Barrick & JP Morgan (2003?). Kaimu's ire is well placed.

I prefer to look at each business deal on it own merits. I think this one can make me money, plain and simple. My main goal is wealth protection, second is wealth creation and frankly I'm not sure where societal implications come in to my investing decisions. It isn't number one or two, to be honest. Maybe this is an area that I really need to focus my thinking. I feel like I'm baring my sole in this post (Casey, help!)...

I wonder what Dan Doyle is doing now?

Re: BRITISH SOVEREIGNS

Hey Fransix, interesting comment about the effect of deflation on cut and polished diamond prices. I'm close to the prices closer to the mining end of the diamond value chain. It would be curious to know what the community has experienced in the past few months on the price at the cut and polished end.

Any young bucks out there just about to make the plunge and have kept an eye on the prices the past few months?

Re: BRITISH SOVEREIGNS

Hey Tango, the five nines was to a purity of 99.99999% pure, not 99999.99%. If that was the case, I sure would buy one! Alchemists were trying to do that for years.

New Gold and WGI

After a very brief review, I really like what I am hearing from Oliphant and Gallagher on the merger. The need for cash flow for New Gold and the construction of the Afton project matches the revenue generated from the Mesquite mine. There is no doubt about the reputation of the management team and the directors. This will be something I will keep a keen eye on.

Was Oliphant or Gallagher at PDAC and did one of our "guys on the ground" have a chance to chat with them?

03/07/2009 - 13:08
PDAC 2009

I'd like to hear a few highlights from the Caraistas that made it to the PDAC. Did anyone fall in the punch bowl?

Jock, was Lakeshore Gold there and did you chat with them?

I heard McEwen's reception was much less extravagent than last year's?

Bill, thanks for the note about Gil & Yolande. I miss them here in YK. I guess the good thing about mining is you never say goodbye, just "see ya later".

Re: ??????????????????

Korvus said: "It's become clear that we need more protection than your average blog..."

I felt this community was unique the first time I was introduced to it a year or so ago. Obviously our communtiy core values and goals fly in the face of some established thinking and could hurt some business models if these ideas gain more momentum. Korvus' comment tells me we are on the right track.

Many thanks to all who contribute to the blog behind the scene. You are doing one hell of a job. I thank you.

Bill, (if you catch this) please say hello to Gil when you meet!

Cheers

Shannon
