Tamminen: 10 Environmental Disasters Worse Than BP Oil Spill

Really CNBC? Trying to relate and compare this event, at this time, is horrible. More crapola from our favorite network.

Market/Gold/Dollar

The divergence in the dollar, market, and gold (all heading down) is curious. Dollar busting through 85.

Any thoughts on what this is setting up going forward?

Re: Foreclosures

Teamonfuego, try this on for size. FDIC encouraging short sales then covering 80-95 percent of the loss, AT FACE VALUE. Since bank purchases are at less then face value, the banks can make tons of $$$$ off the deal. Read it and listen. Posted 2/10.

I really hope this is not true. It honestly made me sick last night.

Unhedge Gold Miners

Can someone confirm which miners are unhedged? GG, KGC, etc.

I believe with hedging Barrick must sell gold to it's creditors first, at the agreed upon price. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: econoday: GDP, jobless claims

I personally don't trust GDP figures anymore. Someone here or on another site mention to look at state tax revenue as a key indicator since 70% of our GDP is consumption, specifically sales tax. I will start tracking my home state IL and Cook & surrounding counties. Below if the direct link to IL data. 2009 Q2 has not been posted yet. I'd also be interested in finding a similar site for NY and CA.

Re: What if they never made it to the Hamptons?

Exactly. Sometimes makes me wish I just ignored this whole thing and went with the flow. Extremely hard to trade against my preconceived notions of where the market is and where it should be going. Taking a break.

Good thing my birthday is coming up, I asked my wife to get me Vad's book!!!!

Re: Coast to coast am...Tonight's guest

Shark, do those interviews get posted to listen to after the fact?

I used utorrent a while ago to download an hour long speach Griffin gave after he released The Creature from Jekyll Island - A Second Look at the Federal Reserve. Below is a link to his speach through google where he summerizes his book and findings. Speach is from 11/1994 in LA. If is a little over an hour and definitely worth a listen.

Re: SLV - are a lot of bars missing?

jmorris1950

Thanks for that study. Very interesting. When checking metal prices on the way to work this morning (CNBC mobile) I saw they posted the following article regarding the ETFS Silver fund. Must be in response the study you posted that was released yesterday. Need to reassure investors to keep the party going. Study also posted for those of you who did not read it. Glad I own some physical!!!!

Bill, great comments again this morning. A group of my coworkers had this same conversation yesterday after work.

SEC May Curb Political Donations from Investment Firms

Again, I mainly read CNBC for fun and humor. If this is all the SEC does it's pointless. It isn't "pay to play" with these guys for pension funds. Like Bill said, it's "bought and paid for" and these guys using their money and influence to eliminate, bend, or break the rules to their favor.

Absolutely pointless IMO

CNBC - Roubini

So it was CNBC who stole my SDS today.

Headline at 12:55 EST - Roubini now says worst of economic crisis over

This article has been pulled from site but still posted on the mobile site (blackberry)

Headline now - Roubini: Views on Economy Unchanged Despite Reports

Nouriel Roubini, the economist whose dire forecasts earned him the nickname "Doctor Doom," said after markets closed Thursday that earlier reports claiming he sees an end to the recession this year were "taken out of context."

"It has been widely reported today that I have stated that the recession will be over 'this year' and that I have 'improved' my economic outlook," Roubini said in a prepared statement. "Despite those reports ... my views expressed today are no different than the views I have expressed previously. If anything my views were taken out of context."

Econoday

Looking at the econoday list for tomorrow there is a lot not to mention Ben speaks again and EIA nat gas. (link to econoday is in the WIR)

Question, what is the difference between the bond "announcement" and the actual auction.

If someone using Fidelity can please comment

When you set a "buy to cover" stop loss on a short through Fidelity, do set your price as a limit or a stop loss?

Dollar vs Bonds

What effect will a dollar bounce have on the bond market? Trying to decide to take profits on TBT. I am assuming a stronger dollar may lower yields. I am not familular with this relationship. Anyone's 2 cents would be great.

Great WIR Bill. I was debating taking chips off the table and did in CEF, AUY, KGC, GG, and SLW. Feels good. I find myself falling in love with these stocks sometimes.

Trailing Stop Loss

Bill mentioned a trailing stop loss to let some of these babies run. Every time I use one I either apply it at the wrong time or set it too tight and get stopped out quick.

Anyone have some pointers or tips?

Bill Moyers Journal - 5/8/09 - MUST LISTEN ON BANKS

This goes great with Bill's WIR. Senator Dick Durbin, from my home state, really exposes HB&B and lays it on the line in an 18 minute interview, first part of this week's program. I don't think he'll be getting campaign contributions from HB&B anymore. He also touches on restructuring contributions. I listened to it yesterday, then Bill was thinking the same thing in the WIR opening comments. Really good stuff, Bill and Bill.

But will anyone actually listen this time?
